HALL OF FAME SOUNDGARDEN BASSIST HIRO YAMAMOTO PLAYS MIAMI OCTOBER 24

Truly, tribute act Last Goodbye and a South Florida band chosen through an open contest share the bill October 24 at La Scala in Brickell

MIAMI, September 1, 2026 - Hiro Yamamoto, who co-founded Soundgarden in 1984 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band last November, plays Miami on Saturday, October 24 with his band Truly, headlining the first edition of Grunge Lives Here at La Scala, 905 Brickell Bay Drive. Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. All ages.

It is Truly's first Florida date, and part of the band's Then, Today and Tomorrow tour, marking 30 years since their debut album Fast Stories...from Kid Coma. Yamamoto played on Soundgarden's earliest records - Screaming Life, Ultramega OK and Louder Than Love - before leaving in 1989. He co-founded Truly with Robert Roth soon after, and the band spent the nineties making records that became cult favorites within the movement. They are now writing new material.

"I'm excited about the new chapter that is emerging for Truly as we celebrate 30 years of the release of Fast Stories...from Kid Coma," Yamamoto said.

Grunge Lives Here is built as three acts in one night. Truly closes it. Miami's Last Goodbye plays the middle, running the decade's canon - Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden.

And the night opens with a band from the generation of Miami rock coming up right now. That slot is not booked yet. It is going to a South Florida band through an open contest. Bands send one video of themselves performing an original rock song to me@grungeliveshere.com; submissions close Thursday, September 10 and the winner is announced Friday, October 2.

"We join a night that brings together the people who built the sound that defined a generation. That legacy is honored live," said Mauricio Rojas of Last Goodbye.

The timing is not incidental. Miami lost its last commercial rock station in August 2025, when 104.3 The Shark dropped its alternative format for sports. It lost Gramps and Bar Nancy in the same stretch, and the rooms opening in the city this year lean toward touring acts, DJ nights and vinyl listening lounges. What Miami is not short of is bands - last weekend more than 40 South Florida acts played a two-day bill at Churchill's Pub, which reopened in 2025 after five years dark.
